Scope of Work

This project involves the mastication/mulching of pinyon-juniper forests and subsequent seeding. Key requirements include:

  • Mastication/Mulching: Targeting live juniper and piñon pine (under 15.1" DSH), live and dead sage, dead and down woody material (>3" diameter), dead standing snags (under 15.1" DSH), mountain mahogany, and gamble oak. Stumps must be 3 inches or less in height. Mulch should be evenly dispersed (average 6", max 12" depth). Avoid masticating yuca, large cacti, culturally altered trees, trees with signs/markers, wildlife nests/cavities, or those along fence lines.
  • Seeding: Areas to be seeded prior to thinning. BLM will provide seed, which contractors must mix to comply with desired species ratios and disperse at 10 lbs per acre.
  • Work Restrictions: Adherence to migratory bird season (May 15 - July 31) and big game winter range (December 1 - February 28) restrictions.
