Fit reasons
- NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
- Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
The Department of Energy's Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) is conducting a Request for Information (RFI) to identify vendors capable of sourcing, maintaining, and supporting a system of Area Radiation Monitors (ARMs) for its Advanced Photon Source (APS) facility. This RFI is for planning and informational purposes, and responses are non-binding. The current system of approximately 50 ARMs is nearing end-of-life. Responses are due by March 17, 2026.
Scope of Work
ANL seeks information on vendors who can provide ARMs capable of measuring x-ray and neutron dose rates from particle accelerator operations. The new system must interface with a control system to monitor ARM signal output, current readbacks, and limit trips. The RFI aims to evaluate products or services for a planned replacement of 50 ARMs.
Key Requirements / Deliverables
- Replacement: Approximately 50 existing ARMs.
- Detection: Must detect both neutron (thermal to 1 GeV) and photon (100 keV to 10 MeV) radiation, including pulsed radiation.
- Physical: Max dimensions 11"(W) x 16"(H) x 8"(D), NEMA 12 / IP54 enclosure or better, 120 VAC 60 Hz power with NRTL certification or ANL inspection.
- Communication: Ethernet interface for remote monitoring, with native EPICS driver support preferred for data provision to an EPICS environment.
- Operational: Local display for dose rates, local/remote alarm system with "Press to Test" function, dual isolated relay outputs for alarms, and single for system/probe failure.
- Information Requested: Support models, warranty, calibration, software updates, on-site support, repair turnaround, spare parts, production capacity, and a Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) budgetary estimate (per-unit, NRE, annual support, training, shipping/commissioning).
- Deployment: Initial delivery of 10 units, followed by a multi-year rollout.
Contract & Timeline
- Type: Request for Information (RFI) / Sources Sought
- Set-Aside: None specified
- Response Due: March 17, 2026, by 12:00 PM CST
- Published: February 23, 2026
- Anticipated RFP: Q2 2026
- Anticipated Contract Award: FY27
Submission & Evaluation
Vendors should provide responses to Sections 1-6 of the "ANL-651 RFI for APS ARMs" document and complete the "Vendor Capability" column on the "APS-U Radiation Monitor Spec Sheet." Responses should be emailed to Molly Hunter at mollyhunter@anl.gov, including the Notice ID (b519142392294cffb915609706ade60d) in the subject line. Proprietary or confidential information must be clearly marked on each page. Responses are for planning purposes only and do not commit ANL to pay for preparation costs.
