Fit reasons
- NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
- Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) is conducting a Request for Information (RFI) to identify vendors capable of sourcing, maintaining, and supporting a system of approximately 50 Area Radiation Monitors (ARMs) for its Advanced Photon Source (APS) facility. This RFI is for planning purposes only and is non-binding. Responses are due by March 17, 2026, 12:00 PM CST.
Purpose
ANL seeks to evaluate potential vendors for the replacement of its current, end-of-life ARM system. The information gathered will inform future procurement decisions, with an RFP anticipated for Q2 2026 and a contract award in FY27.
Scope of Work
The requirement involves providing ARMs capable of measuring x-ray and neutron dose rates from particle accelerator operations. Key technical specifications include:
- Detection: Neutron (thermal - 1 GeV) and Photon (100 keV - 100 MeV) radiation, including pulsed detection.
- Physical: Max 11" (W) x 16" (H) x 8" (D), NEMA 12 / IP54 enclosure or better.
- Electrical: 120 VAC 60 Hz power, NRTL certification or ANL Electrical Equipment Inspection required.
- Communication: Ethernet interface with preferred native EPICS driver support for integration into ANL's control system.
- Operational: Local display for dose rates, local/remote alarm system with "Press to Test" function, dual isolated relay outputs for alarms, and single for system/probe failure. Remote probe mounting up to 130 ft.
Contract & Timeline
- Type: Request for Information (RFI) / Sources Sought
- Set-Aside: None specified.
- Response Due: March 17, 2026, 12:00 PM CST.
- Published: February 25, 2026.
- Anticipated Follow-on: RFP in Q2 2026, contract award in FY27.
Submission & Evaluation
Interested vendors should provide responses to Sections 1-6 of the "ANL-651 RFI for APS ARMs" document and complete the "Vendor Capability" column on the "APS-U Radiation Monitor Spec Sheet." Submissions should include:
- Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) budgetary estimates for per-unit cost, Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE), annual support/maintenance, training, and shipping/commissioning.
- Information on support models, warranty, calibration, software updates, on-site support, repair turnaround times, spare parts, and production capacity. All correspondence must reference RFI No.: 6-S176-I--05497-00 and be sent to Molly Hunter at mollyhunter@anl.gov, with the Notice ID in the subject line. Proprietary information should be clearly marked.
Additional Notes
ANL plans an initial delivery of 10 units, followed by a multi-year rollout. This RFI does not commit ANL to pay for preparation costs.
