Quick Summary
The National Park Service (NPS), on behalf of Saratoga National Historical Park, is soliciting proposals for the design and manufacture of two reproduction American 6-pounder cannon carriages. This Total Small Business Set-Aside opportunity aims to replace deteriorated carriages exposed to year-round weather on the battlefield. The project requires specialized lumber milling and metal hardware fabrication. Quotes are due by April 24, 2026, at 10:00 AM ET.
Scope of Work
The contractor will be responsible for the complete manufacture and delivery of two historically accurate reproduction light 6-pounder cannon carriages, modeled after the "Muller" pattern from John Muller's "A Treatise of Artillery" and SNHP archival schematics. Key requirements include:
- Materials: Solid white oak for wood components (with non-gloss preservation treatment) and iron or steel for metal components (painted with rust-inhibiting primer and black semi-gloss paint).
- Design & Fabrication: Requires lumber milling to proper thickness and fabrication of metal hardware, including hinged trunnion caps and stainless steel fasteners. Dimensions must be within 5% of stated measurements, ensuring secure cannon barrel fit.
- Site Visit: The contractor must conduct an initial on-site visit to Saratoga National Historical Park to measure existing cannon barrels and replica carriages, and to obtain archival drawings.
- Delivery & Fitting: Deliver completed carriages to SARA (648 Rte. 32, Stillwater, NY 12170) and ensure correct fitting and compatibility with SNHP-provided replica cannon barrels.
- Project Management: Provide all necessary labor, tools, equipment, shipping, transport, and insurance. Documentation of expertise in reproducing historic wooden artillery carriages is required.
