The Department of the Interior, National Park Service (NPS), through its IMR Northern Rockies office, is soliciting proposals for the refurbishment of Yellowstone National Park's 2003 Pierce Contender fire apparatus (Engine 3). Scope of Work

The comprehensive refurbishment includes:

  • Engine and Driveline: Upgrading/replacing cooling system components, inspecting engine for leaks, replacing belts, inspecting/testing alternator, replacing batteries/cables, inspecting transmission, repairing radiator bracket, and updating chassis suspension.
  • Brake System: Complete replacement of wheel-end brakes (shoes, pins, drums, springs, air chambers, hoses) and all brake valves.
  • Seals and Bearings: Replacing wheel and hub seals, inspecting wheel bearings.
  • Lighting & Modifications: Removing gas generator, replacing 240V scene lights with 12V LED, updating emergency lights to NFPA-compliant LEDs, adding rear chevrons, ensuring reflective striping meets NFPA, installing new heavy-duty aluminum wheels, replacing windshields, and updating seat belts and SCBA seat brackets to NFPA specifications.
  • Fire Pump and Tanks: Evaluating engineer's panel gauges, inspecting plumbing for leaks, rebuilding/replacing plumbing valves and drains, updating to Waterous VPO electric priming system, and replacing the 1,000-gallon water tank with a 750-gallon tank, including trim and hose bed dividers.
  • Optional Pricing: Required for potential rebuilds/replacements of the pump, pump transmission, foam pump, batteries, tires, and pump panel gauges, if deemed necessary after inspection.

Performance Standards

All work must adhere to NFPA specifications, AWS D1.1-96 (steel) and AWS/ANSI D1.2-96 (aluminum) welding standards, and be certified by a Master Fire EVT. Compliance with NFPA 1912: Standard for Fire Apparatus Refurbishing is mandatory. A Wage Determination for Wyoming counties (Big Horn, Fremont, Hot Springs, Park, Washakie) is applicable.
