Quick Summary
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), under the Department of the Interior, is soliciting proposals for the demolition of six structures (three residential houses and three accompanying garages) at the Tunison Laboratory of Aquatic Science in Cortland, NY. This is a Total Small Business Set-Aside with an estimated value between $100,000 and $250,000. Proposals are due by April 20, 2026, at 12:00 PM Mountain Time.
Scope of Work
The contractor will be responsible for the complete demolition and disposal of three residential houses (approximately 2000 sq ft each) and three 1-stall garages. This includes the removal and disposal of associated sidewalks, gardens, yard fixtures, septic systems, wells, fuel oil/propane tanks, and any remaining appliances. All demolition materials, except for stone, concrete, or masonry rubble (which may be buried on-site if compliant), must be hauled off-site. The affected areas must be returned to a safe, level grade and seeded with grass.
Environmental Considerations
Bidders must assume the presence of lead-based paint and asbestos in all structures. While one residence (Q2) has an asbestos survey, bidders for the third house (Q1) should assume similar asbestos results and plan for wet demolition to control dust. The USGS will arrange asbestos investigations for the remaining two residences prior to demolition. Contractors are responsible for obtaining all necessary permits and complying with local and state regulations for demolition, disposal, and environmental hazards. Tree and vegetation removal adjacent to the buildings, as needed for demolition, is also the contractor's responsibility. The government will coordinate the removal of overhead electrical lines. The driveway at Q2 must be removed, while those at Q1 and Q50 shall remain.
