Statement of Work (SOW)

To replace existing reproduction carpets on the first floor of the historic Lindenwald, Martin Van Buren National Historic Site, with custom-manufactured synthetic fiber carpets that accurately replicate the original mid-19th century carpet patterns.

• Manufacture and deliver custom synthetic carpets to match three distinct historical patterns found in the main hall/stairwell, parlor/breakfast room, and library.

• Carpets must meet very low VOC emission standards.

• Perform site visits for precise measurements and information gathering.

• Submit and obtain approval for carpet samples, dyed yards (poms), and proposed underlayment.

• Manufacture full reproduction carpets based on approved samples.

• Remove and dispose of existing carpets and underlayment.

• Clean the work areas using HEPA filtration vacuums.

• Install new carpets and underlayment using tack strips, replicating existing installation methods where possible.

• Adhesives are not to be used on stair treads without written permission.

• Work must be scheduled and performed during the off-season, November 1st, 2025 – April 30th, 2026, or November 1st, 2026 – April 30th, 2027.

• Work must be performed during regular business hours (7 am-5 pm, Monday-Friday) and only when NPS staff are present.
